Frequently Asked Questions

At Canine Compass, we strictly use positive reinforcement training methods. This means we focus on rewarding desired behaviors with treats, praise, and toys, creating a fun and motivating learning experience for your dog. We believe in building a strong bond based on trust and mutual understanding, avoiding force, fear, or harsh corrections.

Please bring your dog wearing a flat collar or a comfortable harness (no choke chains, prong collars, or e-collars, please). You'll also need a 6-foot leash (non-retractable), a plentiful supply of high-value treats that your dog absolutely loves (small, soft, and easy to eat), and a favorite toy. Don't forget a water bowl and water for your dog, and a mat or bed for settlement exercises.

To ensure personalized attention and optimal learning for both dogs and owners, we keep our group class sizes intentionally small. Each group class has a maximum of 6 dogs, allowing our trainers to provide individual feedback and support to every participant.

For dogs exhibiting aggression towards other dogs or people, we highly recommend scheduling a private behavioral consultation before considering group classes. Our experienced trainers can assess your dog's specific needs, develop a tailored modification plan, and ensure a safe and effective training environment for everyone. Group classes are generally not suitable for dogs with significant aggression issues due to the safety of all participants.

For the safety and health of all dogs attending our programs, full vaccination records are required. This typically includes Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus (DA2PP/DHPP), Rabies, and Bordetella (kennel cough). Puppies must have completed at least their second round of puppy vaccinations. Please be prepared to provide proof of current vaccinations upon registration.
